Alex the Jester will perform at Higgins Faire June 18
(WORCESTER, Mass., May 24, 2005) – Where can you find a jester, live medieval music, wandering puppets, a fire juggler and other kinds of fun foolery? At Higgins Armory Museum’s 2005 Higgins Faire!
Scheduled for Saturday, June 18, 2005 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., this year’s Faire has been completely revamped. New to the roster are Alex the Jester (www.alexthejester.com), wandering puppets by Purple Rock Productions (www.purplerock.org), tarot card reading by Gary McKinstry (www.garymckinstry.com), live period music by DragonHarp and A Goodlie Compayne, a full slate of kids games and much more!
Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for children 6-16 and free to children five and under. Since Higgins Faire is a fundraiser, no passes, discounts or coupons apply this day only. Advance tickets can be purchased online at www.higgins.org, at the Museum or by contacting Sara at (508) 853-6015 ext. 26. Lunch, snack items and beverages will be available on site in the Crusader Café.
“We’re excited for this year’s Higgins Faire”, said Executive Director Kent dur Russell. “It’s our 12th annual, but is almost completely new for 2005! With the addition of great performers like Alex the Jester and even more kids activities like games and workshops, it’s going to be a great family day. Plus this year we’ve restructured admission costs so that everything is included in the at-the-door admission price.”
Alex the Jester, the featured performer, brings his insane comedy and unmatched talents to the Faire. From playing three flutes at once (in staggering rhythms) to peering at his audience through the darting eyeball in his mouth, Alex keeps his audience rolling in the aisles—a testament that has brought him to comedy festivals in Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and other international destinations.
Returning to the Faire is the Higgins Armory Sword Guild with a multitude of different presentations such as the Medieval Master of Arms and Medieval Dagger. Also on the schedule are sessions by The Company of the Wolfe Argent where children can join in on a halberd line or learn about the land of Burgundy.
A full cast of characters will also be wandering throughout the Faire—armored knights, Vikings, Romans. The Quest Gallery will be filled with a face painter, balloon artist, full slate of kids games and other activities. Children will also be able to construct a shield or make silver pins in hands-on workshops.
As always the king & queen of Castle Higgins will be knighting all children as knights or ladies of the Castle.
Higgins Faire is the Museum’s largest fundraiser of the year and helps fund educational programming, special events and some general operating expenses.
