(WORCESTER, Mass., September 9, 2005) – The Higgins Armory Museum has received a $2,500 grant from Sovereign Bank in support of the Museum’s KidsQuest literacy program.
KidsQuest, started in 1999 at the Great Brook Valley Branch of the Worcester Public Library, is an after-school literacy program for children living in the area. In 2004 the program was expanded to include the main branch of the Worcester Public Library and continues to build strong literacy skills in children today.
The Higgins and the Worcester Public Library designed KidsQuest to combine age appropriate readings and theme related workshops to reinforce message content and to inspire the youngsters to continue reading, comprehending, verbalizing and imagining in a safe and nurturing environment. KidsQuest activities take place after school during the academic year and also during school vacations and are lead by staff members from the Museum.
