Higgins Hosts Annual Winter Celebration

(WORCESTER, Mass., January 6, 2006) – Good cheer mixes with fine wines and spirits at the annual Higgins Armory Museum winter celebration and fundraiser on Saturday, February 4 from 7 to 10 p.m. Titled “Knaughty Knight” for 2006, this entertaining, black-tie-optional event will feature wine tastings by KJ Baaron’s Fine Wine & Spirits, live jazz by the Borelli Octet, tasty treats from local caterers and restaurants (including Pepper’s Fine Foods and Cardoos Gourmet Caterers) and a silent auction. All proceeds from the evening support educational programs and other general operating needs of the Museum. “We’re excited to partner with KJ Baaron’s Fine Wine and Spirits for a second year,” said Higgins Armory Museum Executive Director, Kent dur Russell. “They bring in a great selection of wines from a staggering variety of vineyards, the representatives have an extensive knowledge of their product, and they are truly eager to share this knowledge.”
The Borelli Octet, based out of Holden, MA, specializes in original arrangements from the Dave Pell Octet, one of the bands credited with the creation of the West Coast Jazz scene in the 1950’s. Shorty Rogers and Marty Paich were the first arrangers to showcase the unique sound of this group. Members, led by Lou Borelli on trumpet, flute and vocals, include Marshall Mason on drums, Bob Monroe on bass, Steve Wilisch on guitar, Joe Pisano Sr. on tenor saxophone and flute, Dick Auger on trombone and flute, Joe Pisano Jr. on baritone saxophone and flute, and Jan Borelli on piano.
A selection of hors d’oeuvres and desserts from local caters including Pepper’s Fine Foods Catering, Cardoos Gourmet Catering, Struck Catering, Blanchard Foods, Creedon & Co., Creative Catering and others, will tempt attendees along with the extensive selection of wines.
