Higgins Armory Museum

Director's Message

Summer 2004

Escape the sweltering summer heat at the Higgins! As the Museum enters the first summer season with full air conditioning, we know our visitors will notice changes from last year, but not just in the temperature! Visitors will be greeted with a slate of presentations, activities and tours each day, and a summer exhibition, The Middle Ages - A La Carte! will be on display in the temporary exhibition gallery.

In lieu of week-long summer camps, the Education and Public Programs Department has planned a summer packed with drop-in presentations and hands-on activities for all ages. From Shakespeare and Joan of Arc to a Gothic Knight and warrior women, each week will have a different theme (see descriptions in the Calendar section).

From July to September, a special summer exhibition, The Middle Ages--A La Carte!, will be on view. Transportation has come a long way since the middle ages! Featuring an exact replica of a 14th Century medieval cart constructed by high school seniors in Pennsylvania, it's sure to make you think twice the next time you speed down the highway in your comfy car.

In June scholars from around the world will convene in Worcester for the Metals Conservation Summer Institute (MCSI), the first of three such programs. Funded by a grant from the IMLS, and held in conjunction with WPI, this program is bringing world-wide attention to the Higgins!

Enjoy your summer!
