Director's Message: Summer 2005

Great news! We've won 4 "Best of Worcester 2005" awards for the second year in a row! In a readers' poll administered by Worcester Magazine the Museum was voted #1 in the following categories: Best Reason to Visit Worcester, Best Family Fun Destination, Best Local Attraction and Best Wedding Venue. Thanks to those of you who voted for us!

This June marks the second year of the Metals Conservation Summer Institute (MCSI), a result of a dynamic collaboration between the Higgins Armory Museum, WPI and the Metals Processing Institute at WPI. Last year's program saw instructors and participants from South Africa, England, Greece, Malta, Argentina and Poland as well as Canada and the United States. With subjects ranging from principles of metallurgy to surface decoration, the curriculum included "field trips" to the Worcester Art Museum, Harvard's Fogg Art Museum and Iron Works on the Saugus. MCSI enables the Higgins and WPI to demonstrate national leadership in the field of metals conservation and offers a uniqueness that guarantees the international significance and overall quality of the project.
