he Higgins Armory Museum offers a wide range of
educational programming for visitors of all ages.
Thousands of students from throughout New England and beyond enjoy our Field Trip
program every year. A Higgins Field Trip gives students a first-hand look at one of the most significant collections of arms and
armor in the world! We offer a diverse roster of options that tie in with many different curriculum areas.
Numerous curriculum resources, including a free, downloadable pre- and post-visit packet, are available at
the Teacher Resources page of this site.
The Higgins also offers special group programs and discounts for any group of twelve or more people – see a
live arms and armor presentation and take a guided tour of the Museum’s collection, all for a special price!
Group rates are available for any type of organization from homeschool organizations to employee groups
and the program can be adapted for ages pre-K through adult.
Our Outreach programs bring the Higgins
to your school, library, community center, or other group. These in-depth programs feature historically accurate
reproduction arms and armor with hands-on opportunities for audience volunteers.
Scout groups won’t want to miss a chance to sleep over at Castle Higgins during our
OverKnight program. At an OverKnight, scouts
learn about the Code of Chivalry and its parallels to their scout code, and progress from “squires” to “knights”
over the course of the program.
Birthday Parties at the Higgins are a unique
opportunity for your child to celebrate his or her special day with friends in a fun-filled morning or afternoon.
The Higgins swordplay classes offer the
unique opportunity to practice historical combat techniques derived from 14th to 17th century combat treatises.
Learn the Fundamentals of Historical Combat and then try your hand at a technique course for longsword, rapier,
and more. We also offer modern fencing classes. Learn more about specific course offerings at our
Calendar.
At the Higgins Armory Museum, our public programming has something for everyone – from historical
combat and fencing classes to lectures, concerts, gallery talks, demonstrations, and much more.
More details can be found at our Calendar page.
