Star Wars Day10:00 am - 4:00 pmA long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.... Jedi Knights and Stormtroopers of the Empire have taken over the Higgins. Compare the stormtroopers armor to that of the Gothic knight, see who will win a lightsaber battle between Darth Maul and the Higgins' own Jedi, and even sign up for a lightsaber class and harness the force to discover if you have what it takes to be a Jedi. Members of the New England Garrison of the 501st Legion and the Alderaan Base of the Rebel Legion will be on hand to share their knowledge of the Star Wars galaxy throughout the day. Salle d'Armes Class10:30 am - 12:00 pmHave you ever wondered what it is like to wield the knightly longsword or the musketeer's deadly rapier? At the Higgins Academy of the Sword you will receive expert instruction in rapier, longsword, and dueling sabre, as well as the classical forms of modern fencing weapons. We invite you to join a growing community of men and women exploring the art, science, and spirit of the sword in a safe, progressive system of instruction. Build overall fitness and coordination as you learn living swordplay traditions handed down from the days when a person's life might depend on their skill with a blade. Class meets every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 and Saturday mornings from 10:30 to noon. Monthly tuition rate of $100 applies. Individual classes are $20 each. Jedi Lightsaber Initiation12:30 pm - 1:15 pmThe way of the Jedi, easy is it not. To master the lightsaber, many years of practice it takes. For those not attuned to the Force, a few limbs can they lose. Thankfully, at the Higgins Armory Museum, safe practice lightsabers we have developed. Come to learn the basic lightsaber guards, strikes, and parries you will. Perhaps a Force-sensitive you are? Cost: $10. Class is open to age 14 and up, or age 10 if accompanied by a participating parent. Space is limited. No experience is needed and all equipment is supplied. Workshop participants are advised to wear comfortable clothing with long pants and athletic footgear.
