Middle Earth Day

10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Higgins Armory Museum welcomes the world of J.R.R. Tolkien into its halls.
  • Come dressed as your favorite charactore from Tolkien's stories of fantasies and adventures
  • Hear stories of Bilbo from J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit
  • Make a Gondorian shield or design your own
  • Watch Arwen teach Aragorn the proper way to slay an orc
  • Play games from the Shire
  • See if you can outgrin a dwarf
So dust off your traveling cloaks and study up on your runes, or just comb your feet and join us for a day of fun and fellowship!

Some of today's programs:

Hobbit Sing-along - 11:00 am
Hobbits are known for a few things, such as furry feet, six or more meals a day and their love of song and fellowship. Join us as we channel our inner Hobbit with some songs right out of the works of J.R.R. Tolkien.

Tolkien Tales - 12:00 pm
John Ronald Reuel Tolkien created some of the most famous stories and characters of the 20th century. Listen as he tells some of his favourites to children of all ages from the comfort of his wingback chair!

Name the 13 Dwarves from the Hobbit! - 12:30 pm
Bombur, Bofur, Bifur, Nori, Ori, Dori, Thorin, Balin, Dwalin, Oin, Gloin, Fili, and Kili - Can you remember them all? Can you name them correctly and do it fast? If so, compete to see who is the fastest and most accurate. The winner will get a small bag of Higgins gold.

The Riddle Game - 2:30 pm
Before you set off on an adventure you need to be properly prepared. You need food, water, a map, a hat, some handkerchiefs, a bit of rope, and a plan. But there are other, less obvious things that may be handy, such as being skilled at riddles. Come test your wits and skill against a host of other would be adventurers and win some Higgins gold!
